The highly anticipated Transformers 3 Dark of The Moon finally hit theaters today. The movie features Shia LaBeouf and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley with several other stars. I took the privilege of watching the movie on its first day and here are my thoughts. And yes, expect to read some spoilers.
The movie started up nicely with our friend Optimus Prime’s voice over several scenes starting from a ship escaping Cybertron and crash landing on Earth’s moon. The movie also brings in a twist of reality which gave rise to the Apollo space missions.
Shia LaBeouf who plays Sam Witwicky in the movie did a great job on the acting. Expect more funny scenes with Sam as you watch the movie. Rosie who plays Carly, Sam’s new girlfriend also performs a commendable acting for the movie. Beautiful and sexy, this seems what Michael Bay wants to have from his leading lady. They could’ve dirtied Rosie a bit on several scenes to put in a bit of effect on the action, quite impossible to go through so much dirt and debris while ending up spotlessly clean at the end of the battle. But then again, it’s the movies. You can do anything in the movies.
The movie brings in several new Transformers into its roster. Here’s a list of the new and old Transformers that you will see in the movie.
Autobots
- Brains – One of the small Autobots who is very intelligent and transformers into a laptop.
- Bumblebee – Your trusty Camero
- Ironhide – Dies after Sentinel Prime turns against the Autobots in the middle of the movie.
- Leadfoot (The Wreckers)
- Mirage – Hot looking Ferrari
- Ratchet
- Roadbuster (The Wreckers)
- Sideswipe
- Wheelie – One of the small Autobots. He is a former Decepticon who made his first debut in Transformers Revenge of The Fallen.
- Wheeljack - The Einstein Autobot that later dies in the movie.
Decepticons
- Igor – Weird looking Decepticon. Kinda like in the Frankenstein movies.
- Laserbeak – The annoying bird assassin.
- Megatron
- Sentinel Prime – An Autobot and a Prime but betrays the Autobots for his cause.
- Shockwave
- Soundwave
- Starscream
The movie brings in a good twist at the point on when the Autobot – Sentinel Prime turns against his own because of a deal he had made with Megatron. Sentinel Prime also kills Ironhide as he reveals his true goal. In the movie, they reveal that Sentinel Prime was to meet with Megatron on Earth but both faced a problem. Sentinel Prime’s ship – the Arc gets shot down as it leaves Cybertron. It then floats in space and crash lands on Earth’s moon. Megatron’s fate was revealed in the first movie as he crash lands in the Arctic regions of Earth and freezes.
The actor Patric Dempsey plays Dylan and an errand boy of the Decepticons. Dylan is the boss of Carly and seems to have been blinded by his need to survive. He even fights Sam in the last parts of the movie as he tries to activate the control pillar which activates the teleportation device created by Sentinel Prime. His epic moment ends as he gets hit by a newspaper on the face and gets owned by Sam. Expect some annoying flying newspaper scenes in the movie.John Turturro returns to the spotlight as he plays Simmons whom brings good intelligence for the Autobots and Sam. Expect some crazy funny scenes with him especially at the bar scene.
Ken Jeong who plays Jerry Wang comes into play early in the movie. You might be reminded about the Hangover movie when you see him, great acting and very funny scenes. Sam and Jerry get to have an “intimate scene” in a stall at the men’s comfort room.
And Optimus Prime finally gets to have a trailer with him in which carries his equipment like sword, shield, guns and a jetpack.
The movie ran for more than two and a half hours with several bits of dull moments in between scenes. Though great in action and story, I find the moment in between scenes to be a bit dull and boring. But then again its a wonderful movie about Transformers. Wonderful effects and acting from the cast and crew is certainly appreciated. I do not know on how the movie would be a success but it has clearly tamed down my excitement, though I was a bit bored after watching the movie.
So I hope I was able to satisfy your need to be reading this post and I do hope you would enjoy the movie more than I. Cheers!
